Continuing to popluate the early days of this blog with work that didn’t make the cut for my website.
The image below was taken at Westminster Presbyterian Church on Delmar in St. Louis, moments before church service on Sunday morning. This kid was one of the most talented singers in his church choir, and he had graduated from high school the day before. What’s really terrible (photographers, tell me I’m not the only one) is that that’s about all the detail I can remember. I don’t know his name or where he went to high school or why he was laughing. This happens to me all the time. I’m shooting fast, moving between people or through an unfolding situation, I don’t have a chance to get the name of every subject, and worse, I neglect to make notes about the details afterward. Part of it is that you don’t know which photos are going to be best until much later and it seems too painstaking to notate every name and detail. If I was purely a journalist I’d obviously have to get that information right, but dammit I should get better about that anyway.
