Finless Text 2
It seems relatively simple to photograph someone with their feet in the water, but one moment we’re on dry sand, and the next we’re in two feet of swirling water, and it’s spraying up onto the camera and the computer and the subject’s shirt. The wind is trying to invert the giant strobe umbrella and blow it down the beach. Meanwhile the sun and wind make it nearly impossible for the creative director to see the computer screen, and the tether cable is dipping in and out of the sea. In the end, though, we nailed it. (And if we didn’t I wouldn’t be telling you about it.)
It was a real challenge, but we made it fun for the subjects in a way that brought out their energetic best. A big thanks to the folks at Finless for playing in the water with me, thanks to Christophe at The Imagists, and thank you Guadalupe for the wonderful behind-the-scenes footage (scroll down and/or check Instagram).
